This week, we were e-mailed the question: “How can you retain speed qualities whilst recovering from serious injury?”. Because this is such a nebulous topic, we figured we’d get Cris (Clinical Director) and Ed (Performance Director) together on a sofa to discuss the various factors.

We cover the question in the general case, before moving on to talk about the specific case of an elite sprinter with a hamstring injury. Along the way we discuss various rehab modalities such as water sprinting, stationary cycle rehab and electro-stimulation methods. We then briefly talk about a football player with an ankle injury and a tennis player with a shoulder injury.

What’s your opinion of what we’ve said? Let us know in the comments below! We’d love to hear your opinion.

–
What’s your question? Tweet or e-mail it to us and we’ll reply with a video!

This week, the excellent running store Advance Performance (@Advance_P) asked us a question about ‘Shin Splints’ – because it is a common problem amongst runners…

Of the endless list of runners and sports people that we’ve helped over the past 5 years, ‘shin splints’ has to be very high in the “list of things that people come to see us about’.

In this video we talk about what shin splints is, and isn’t – we talk about how important a correct diagnosis is, the things that we will consider/help you with if you present with shin splints, and show you some useful things that you can do at home to help; if it turns out (as it does in most cases) that you actually have something called “MTTP”…

As we said in our previous posts (on back pain and running injuries) – we sat down with a few of our clients and asked them to tell their stories on camera; This client phoned us in a panic because her daughter had just been diagnosed with Scoliosis (a twisted spine). She was looking for corrective exercises and help with her daughter’s core stability. In this video she talks about the lack of available information for treating scoliosis, how the combined physiotherapy and strength & conditioning training has affected her daughter – and her experiences of being a Core Cambridge client!

As I mentioned in the previous post, we recently sat down with a few of our clients and asked them to tell their stories on camera.

This client decided to take up running after the birth of her children, and soon suffered leg pains after just short distances. She visited several practitioners to solve the problem but just couldn’t find a solution. In this video she tells her story and talks about her experiences as a Core Cambridge client – and how, despite the history, we helped her to achieve the ‘best thing I’ve ever done’!

We sat down with a few of our clients and asked them to tell their stories on camera; This client had been suffering terrible back and leg pain and had all kinds of medical intervention including surgery. In this video he tells his story and talks about his experiences as a Core Cambridge client – and how, despite being told ‘there was nothing that could be done’ he is now happily on a path to being fitter than ever!
