Sadly, in this country we've been led to believe by expensive marketing that your ability to get fit is reliant on the latest piece of equipment or fitness gadget, and that the more expensive the item, the more fabulous your results will be.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
At Core Cambridge, our mission is simple — whoever you are, and however fit or unfit you are, we will give you access to the same quality of information that you would get if you were an Olympic Athlete ...and because of this — your results will be way beyond your expectations.
As it happens, we do train a number of potential Olympiads, but that doesn't mean that you need to be fit to use our services; We offer personal training at exactly the same price as the ordinary health clubs around Cambridge and it's available for everyone — and that includes you!.
Choosing a personal trainer is a bit like choosing a chef...
Although we charge the same, the quality of service that you get from us is worlds apart. Let's put it this way — comparing personal trainers is like comparing chefs; there are lots of really average ones, but there are relatively few Gordon Ramseys.
Unlike the vast majority of trainers out there who undertake a breif 'personal training and sports massage therapist' course, all of our staff have very strong degree qualifications from major universities, and on top of that — we're making sure that if they haven't got at least the two most important postgraduate qualifications (UKSCA & CSCS), they're currently studying towards them.
To continue the restaurant analogy — we're aiming for as many michelin stars as possible; Our staff are capable of training Olympic Athletes, so they're more than qualified to get you to where you want to be.
There are no treadmills at core cambridge
When we decided to establish our centre in Cambridge, which is the first of its kind in the UK, we deliberately designed it not to be based on rows and rows of fixed equipment, but instead on teaching you how to correctly use your own body to move.
As a result, the movements that you learn to perform carry over exactly into your daily life, meaning that the performance increase is evident every single day and postural weakness and pain is a thing of the past.
The most common question we get when new people visit our centre is "where is all of your cardio kit?".
When we point to the people themselves, and then to our running track and our collection of medicine balls, bands, rucsacks and beer kegs, they usually look bemused, but the point we make is that by applying the very latest sports science we can make you work far harder than you ever would on a treadmill and it's much, much, more fun.
Given that not one of our national and international athlete clients can complete some of our little exercise challenges, you can rest assured that we can get you fitter than you could possibly imagine — and without mindlessly pounding a treadmill!
The first step is always an initial assessment
When you start with us, the first thing that we do is perform a complete "musculo-skeletal" screening with you. This almost effortless evaluation gives us a complete picture of how your body is currently set up.
From this we know whether your hips, knees, shoulders and back work properly, which muscles your body uses well and which it doesn't, and which muscles are tight and therefore need stretching.
Once this hour-long process is complete, we'll explain the results to you, discuss your goals and then use the results to decide what is the fastest route to get to where you want to be.
Whether that's massage, therapy, core stability work, stretching, free weights, cardio, nutrition support, a running programme and running technique work - whatever, we can take care of it for you.
...and because we constantly set goals and review your progress, you are guaranteed results, and the only limit to your acheivements will be time.
You'll never move onto complicated movement that your body isn't capable of producing yet (because that will only lead to injury) and if you are ready to move on then there's nothing holding you back — whatever level you're at!
So, what training is best for you?
The straight fact is that we don't yet know what's best for you until we screen you...
But once we do, you can be confident that nobody in the country can get you to your goals faster than we can.
